Jim Perna
JAMES F. PERNA has practiced law in Washington DC for over 30 years, specializing in tax, real estate finance, corporate, partnership, and investment matters. His clients include banks, mutual funds, insurance companies, mortgage bankers, tax-exempt organizations, real estate developers, holding companies, entrepreneurs, commercial enterprises, and foreign investors. Mr. Perna has performed legal services for tax syndications, tax-exempt bond issues, securitizations, work-outs, and bankruptcies. Mr. Perna has counseled and advised such matters as capital formation, equity terms, stock options, securitization of debt, and executive compensation, in addition to strategies and analyses on investor and lender negotiations, mergers, spin-offs, and acquisitions, leasing, and business contract issues.
Mr. Perna is a graduate in economics of Cornell University. He received his MBA in Finance and law degree from the University of California at Berkeley where he graduated in the top of his business school class, a member of Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society, and as an editor of the Industrial Relations Law Journal. He has a Masters degree in Tax Law from Georgetown University. Mr. Perna was an attorney with the Internal Revenue Service Office of Chief Counsel in Washington DC and later served as attorney-advisor to the Chief Judge of the U. S. Tax Court. Mr. Perna also serves on the Board of Trustees of the George Woodward Co. B.T., and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Homestead Funds, Inc., a family of mutual funds.
