Jasmin Sethi
Jasmin Sethi is a lawyer-economist, entrepreneur, and thought leader with over a decade of experience in the financial industry. Throughout her work, she seeks to expand financial access for ordinary individuals and help them understand the impact of the financial industry and policy on their well-being. She advises and angel invests in companies in the financial and gig economy space.
As CEO of Sethi Clarity Advisers since 2018, Sethi provides regulatory expertise on financial regulation and business strategy from both a qualitative and quantitative perspective to established companies and start-ups. Her areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, Regulation Best Interest and its impact on revenue-sharing arrangements, ESG engagement and regulation, and analysis of portfolio and fund data in the asset management industry. From the beginning of 2018 to Summer 2020, Jasmin Sethi served as the CEO, Founder, and board member of BuildUp Capital, an SEC-registered investment adviser that facilitated retirement savings for the self-employed. As CEO, Jasmin lead both the product build and the development of investor and client-platform relationships, creating a prototype for the first API-based robo-adviser for gig workers.
Previously, Jasmin served as the Vice President of Legal & Compliance at BlackRock. She worked with senior management to develop effective regulatory strategies in the U.S. and globally to advance BlackRock's key advocacy priorities. Jasmin also served as Special Counsel in the Division of Trading and Markets at the SEC where she drafted complex regulations, participated in a cross-agency working group on systemic risk, and reviewed new product listings.
Jasmin is a frequent speaker and thought leader on issues pertaining to how the asset
management industry and financial regulation impacts investors. She has authored numerous research papers, blog posts, op-eds, and comment letters to the SEC on the asset management industry and current and proposed SEC regulations.
Jasmin has also served on the advisory board of the Harvard Alumni Entrepreneurs, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of entrepreneurship, promotion of innovation, and the ideals of leadership and learning. As a volunteer, Jasmin dedicates her time through iMentor to educating and empowering high school students to achieve their professional and financial goals.
