Gary Gensler Confirmed as SEC Chair

The Securities and Exchange Commission released a statement from the commissioners welcoming Gary Gensler as chairman of the agency. The former head of the CFTC won a 53-48 Senate vote and received the support of three Republicans, according to the Wall Street Journal. During his confirmation hearings, Gensler indicated that volatile trading and the SPAC boom would be areas of focus. He is also expected to take up issues important to progressives such as disclosures related to climate risks and ESG.
