IM Director Natasha Greiner to Depart SEC, Brian Daly to Lead IM Division

On June 10, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that Natasha Vij Greiner, Director of the Division of Investment Management, would be stepping down effective July 4. Ms. Greiner spent 23 years at the SEC, including stints in Enforcement, Examinations, Trading and Markets, and Investment Management. According to the press release “She received the Chairman’s Award for Excellence in 2015 and again in 2018, and she received the Chairman’s Award for Serving the Interests of Main Street Investors in 2019.” SEC Chairman Paul Atkins stated, “I am grateful for her strategic counsel since I’ve become Chairman. Her unwavering commitment to the agency’s mission and her ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes with clarity will have a lasting effect.”

On June 13, Chairman Atkins announced Brian Daly would be leading the Division of Investment Management effective July 8. According to the press release, Mr. Daly most recently served as a partner in the investment management practice at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, and prior to that as a partner in the investment management group of Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP for almost a decade. His practice focused on legal, compliance, and operational issues for firm clients, which included investment advisers and fund managers. He also served as chief legal and compliance officer for Kepos Capital, a quantitative investment management company, of which he was a founding equity partner. He also served as general counsel and in compliance roles at Millennium Partners and Raptor Capital Management. In the press release, Mr. Daly stated, “I am optimistic about this new day at the SEC and eager to get to work with Chairman Atkins and my new colleagues to ensure regulatory compliance by investment advisers and fund managers while tailoring rulemakings within our statutory authority.”
