SEC Announces Creation of AI Task Force
On August 1, the SEC announced the launch of an artificial intelligence (AI) task force and named Valerie Szczepanik as the SEC’s Chief AI Officer. Ms. Szczepanik brings with her a wealth of AI experience from her leadership of the SEC’s Strategic Hub for Innovation and Financial Technology and as Senior Advisor for Digital Assets and Innovation and has also served in the SEC’s Divisions of Enforcement and Corporate Finance. The SEC’s AI Task Force will be a new centralized unit dedicated to enhancing innovation, operational efficiency and regulatory accuracy through AI-driven tools and systems. Through the establishment of the AI Task Force, the SEC seems poised to incorporate AI into its back-office processes, disclosure reviews, surveillance systems and fraud detection workflows.
