MFDF Event of Interest: The 2026 Directors’ Institute
MFDF’s Directors’ Institute is a directors-only, in-person program where fund directors engage as the board of directors of a fictional fund complex, the details of which are presented in a case study format provided ahead of the meeting. In 2026, the case will include issues relating to private assets, ETFs, and fixed income products as well as common fund oversight concerns including flagging performance, sub-advisory arrangements, and questions of adequate resourcing at the adviser. MFDF invites directors with varying levels of experience and from all types of registered investment company boards to join us for an incomparable peer-to-peer learning experience.
A lead independent trustee from a $100B+ fund complex described the Directors’ Institute this way:
“From my perspective, the Institute is unique. MFDF limits the number of attendees so that each participant actively participates in one of several board-sized groups that seriously analyze the case writeup. [Participants] are asked to contemplate the contract renewal with management of a realistic, but fictitious, set of regulated funds. The MFDF staff do an outstanding job of inserting current issues into the discussion and bring in experienced advisor executives to role-play and interact with the attendees as they would in an actual 15(c) process. My experience… was fascinating as it opened my eyes to the challenging scenarios that could confront us in real life. The discussions with the peers in my breakout group helped me appreciate the diverse perspectives of other directors and the various approaches that could be used to handle difficult issues.”
The 2026 program will be held in Naples, Florida from January 26-28.
