SEC Chairman Atkins and Commission Peirce Crypto Remarks at ETHDenver
On February 18, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and Commissioner Peirce spoke at ETHDenver, an event focused on decentralized technologies with over 25,000 attendees. Commissioner Peirce listed several actions taken by the SEC within the past year to advance crypto clarity, including assisting with legislative initiatives, offering new and retracting old staff guidance, initiating new collaborative efforts with the CFTC, and issuing no-action letters, among others. In addition, Peirce noted that the SEC is actively working to design rules, exemptive relief, and SEC interpretations to form the basis of a novel and durable crypto regulatory framework. Chairman Atkins shared additional initiatives that the SEC is working on in the crypto space, such as the treatment of crypto assets that are subject to an investment contract, a rulemaking regarding transfer agents that can accommodate blockchain and a rulemaking on the custody of non-security crypto assets, such as payment stablecoins, among several others.
