SEC Atkins Launches Podcast ‘Material Matters’
On April 16, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) launched a podcast hosted by Chair Paul Atkins titled “Material Matters.” The podcast will provide “stakeholders and the investing public with exclusive interviews and insights around the agency’s policy and rulemaking agenda.” In the first episode, Chair Atkins sat down with Commissioners Hester Peirce and Mark Uyeda to discuss the Commission’s mission and priorities. In their conversation, the three voting members of the Commission discussed IPOs, portfolio diversification, technology, digital assets, and investor education. While discussing portfolio diversification, Commissioner Uyeda noted, “you can have the highest risk security in your portfolio but if it's part of a broadly diversified set of positions the overall effect on that portfolio is not that significant.” In Atkins’ discussion with Commissioner Peirce on cryptocurrency regulatory matters, she noted “laying that framework will make people comfortable to innovate here, not only with respect to crypto, but with respect to other things because they realize that, at the SEC, we’re willing to deal with those hard questions.”
